Santa Clause parade returns Sun. Dec 1 2-4pm. Route begins near the Burlington Mall at Prospect Street & Guelph Line, marches along Guelph Line to New Street, travels west along New Street to James Street, then north on Brant Street to Caroline. Road closures are in effect from 11am-4:30pm on various streets along the route.

New Street from Martha Street to Guelph Line is scheduled for resurfacing in 2015, which provides an opportunity to enhance cycling, for example adding bike lanes or painted “sharrows.” City Transportation staff and I will be hosting a community workshop Dec. 5 to to get your feedback on several options to enhance cycling here. You can also provide your feedback by phone or email by Jan. 6.
As the city tries to encourage more active transportation, we are reviewing rules around using Burlington’s streets for wheeled transportation including skateboarding, roller blades, electric scooters and other “emerging vehicles.” Currently all of these are prohibited on city streets.
Your valuable insights, lived experience, and reasonable alternatives to on-road bike lanes helped sway the vote to keep the road as is.
Residents concerns were set aside.
Though I recognize this is proposed as a pilot, which I normally support, the impact on vehicular safety and flow would be too great.
Council voted to shift an additional percent of gas tax funding from transit to roads. Council amended the federal gas tax split from 70% roads and 30% transit, to 80% roads and 20% transit. This provides an additional $500,000 for roadways resurfacing infrastructure.
