2267 Lakeshore sold; proposal remains for three single family homes

Residents may be aware that the vacant property at 2267 Lakeshore Road has been sold. This property had a single family home (now demolished) and was the subject of a rezoning application to permit three single family homes, approved by council in April 2015.

No changes have been proposed by the new owner, and the city’s current understanding is that the new owner will simply carry on from where the previous owner left off. The new owner is clearing conditions of Draft Approval in order to obtain Final Approval and permits.

My Take: I voted in favour of the three homes, reduced from the initial five-home proposal, along with other improvements based on resident input. I will keep an eye on this project and alert residents of any significant changes to the approved plans. If a variance or rezoning is requested, that automatically triggers public notice and a sign would be posted on the property. Variances are considered by the Committee of Adjustment; Rezoning comes to City Council for a decision.

I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.
