Library/classroom addition proposed for 3508 Commerce Crt; rezoning required

3508 commerce crtA Planning application has been made to amend the Zoning By-law regulations for a property at 3508 Commerce Court to facilitate expansion of the existing Fairview Glen Montessori School by adding a library and a classroom to the second floor. The additions will be located on top of the existing one storey ‘wings’ of the building and will add 174m to the total area of the existing building. In addition, the on site parking and site accesses will be modified.

The application seeks to rezone the subject lands from MXG to MXG-Exception to permit an addition to the existing school which exceeds the maximum 50% expansion to the original building permitted by the zoning bylaw, to recognize existing setbacks, and to allow an accessible parking space in the front of the site. The applicant has submitted technical reports in support of the application including a planning justification report, and traffic study. These reports are available for public review in the Burlington Planning & Building Department and on the city’s website at burlington.ca/3508-Commerce-Court

A Statutory Public Meeting will be held June 21, 6:30pm, Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, 426 Brant Street to consider the application. Staff is recommending approval of the rezoning. Residents can attend to provide input. You don’t need to register in advance, but those who register will be heard first. Register as a Delegation

The staff report on the application will be available online a week before the meeting: Agenda & Minutes

I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.

What's your take?
