Marriot confirmed for Bridgewater; potential variances required
The Marriot Hotel has been confirmed for the Bridgewater project being developed at the foot of Elizabeth/Pearl and Lakeshore Road on Burlington’s downtown waterfront.
The project features a 22-storey residential tower, 8-storey hotel, and 7-storey condominium, with retail along Lakeshore Road, and a public walkway along the shoreline.
The hotel has requested some changes to the proposal, which may require variances. These include building some office space for the hotel on the ninth floor, within the same height as the rooftop mechanical and design features. The rooftop design element (the blue waterfall feature) is permitted to be higher than the top of the building, as decorative elements are not counted towards the height measurement. If the top of the proposed ninth floor office is below the top of the decorative element there would be no additional impact on views.
If variances are required, residents within 60 metres of the property would be notified of the date and time of the Committee of Adjustment meeting to decide on the variances. I will also post that information here.

Again, here we go, 22 stories – we need to fight this, or fighting the ADI development is pointless! Core citizens will be dwarfed by highrise building if the city continues in anyway shape or form with allowing these developments!!!!

June, The Bridgewater was approved in 2006. It will proceed. The ADI development has not been approved, and the city is opposing the application at the OMB, hearing to start March 14.

I’m confused too … I recall this was originally going to be a Delta hotel – one of a new luxury type they are building on waterfronts in many cities. Are Mariott and Delta the same entity or did something change?

For reasons not known to me, Marriot is now the hotelier. Not the same as Delta.

Marianne I am a little confused. Originally the hotel was to be 7 stories, then permitted to be 8 stories and now they want offices on the 9th floor? Does it mean that the structure will be 9 stories and because the waterfall feature can be taller – it really will be 10 stories high?

Penny, The potential office would not be higher than the 9 storey waterfall feature. More details will be available if they proceed with the variance application.
