I’m delighted and honoured to be reelected to serve you, the residents of Ward 2 and the city, for another four years. Thank you for your trust and support. I will work hard each day to maintain that trust, and serve every resident equally, regardless of how you voted.

Join us for inagural council, Dec. 1, BPAC, 6:30pm

The new term of council begins Dec. 1. Residents are invited to attend and celebrate the swearing in of the new council on Monday, Dec. 1, 6:30pm, at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. The event is normally held in Council Chambers, but has been moved to BPAC to allow more residents to attend – a great decision to enhance community engagement. Light refreshments are also typically served. Please be our guest!

Issues for the next term

In coming issues of the newsletter, I’ll outline the key priorities for the term, which include managing residential development to protect neighbourhood character, greenspace and the Official Plan & Zoning; maintaining a vibrant downtown; attracting commercial development to shift the tax load off the residential base; tackling the infrastructure deficit; investing in transit, parks and trails, and affordable housing; and championing a private tree bylaw, arts & culture fee waiver and council code of conduct.

Welcome to our new trustee, Leah Reynolds

I’m also thrilled that my friend Leah Reynolds was elected as our Ward 1&2 public school trustee. I look forward to working closely with her throughout the term to bring more collaboration between the board and City Hall on issues of mutual interest. Leah will be a strong voice for our students and families, and has already dived into the role. She has a monthly newsletter to keep residents informed about what’s happening at the school board, and in our schools. Email her to sign up: .

Congratulations also to incumbent Arlene Iantomasi, who was returned as the Catholic school trustee for Wards 1&2.

I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.
