Media Release

Burlington, Ont. – April 14, 2014—Burlington’s Sustainable Development Committee, in partnership with the Burlington Public Library, is hosting The Business of Greening Burlington, a panel discussion on how Burlington companies are contributing to sustainability.

This free event is taking place at the Central Branch of Burlington Public Library, 2331 New St., on Tuesday, April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Business of Greening Burlington is a chance for residents to discover how local businesses are adopting ecologically sustainable actions into their everyday practices.

The panelists for this event include:

· Dave De Sylva, DelRidge Homes;

· Mark Wiedener, Greenflow; and

· Cameron Tulloch, Halton Region Small Business Centre.

“Local businesses have always played a large role in the city’s sustainability efforts,” said General Manager of Development and Infrastructure Scott Stewart. “To have them share their strategies with environmentally conscious residents is a great benefit to the community.”

In 1990, the City of Burlington declared itself a Sustainable Development Community and established the Sustainable Development Committee as an advisory body to city council.

The role of this multi-sectoral citizens’ committee is to foster dialogue and awareness of sustainable development and to develop ways of integrating economic and environmental planning at the local level.

“We have been fortunate to have companies in the community lead by example as we continue on our journey to achieve environmental sustainability,” said Lynn Robichaud, the city’s senior sustainability co-ordinator.
