Mount Nemo heritage study cancelled

Mount Nemo picMore than 70 people attended the meeting on May 2nd at the Conservation Halton Auditorium about the Mount Nemo Plateau Heritage Conservation District Study. The study is indeed cancelled, however staff is still committed to protecting rural Burlington’s character.

A considerable amount of resistance and concerns were received about this project. Among the concerns from the residents, people expressed that the study would impact real estate values as well as adding new processes and regulations. There was also a lack of clarity about the study benefits itself, and residents felt a heritage district was over regulation. Through the strategic plan, new priorities were identified with a chance to look at other opportunities in the rural area.
