Lakeshore Road work (Maple Avenue to Skyway Treatment Plant)
Lakeshore Road from Maple Avenue to the Skyway Water Treatment plant is being reconstructed and changed from a rural cross section to an urban cross section.
Project Includes:
- Road reconstruction including widening and raising of the roadway in conjunction with the Joseph Brant Hospital expansion.
- Installation of curb and gutter and a 2.5 metre sidewalk on the west side from Maple Ave. to the parking garage.
- Installation of a storm sewer and oil/grit separator
- Street lighting replacement
- Installation of a traffic signal at JBMH Parking Garage
- Median island
- On road bike lanes
- 300 mm watermain replacement
The roadway is also being raised by a maximum of 0.9 metres in order to have the new roadway above the flood proof elevation provided by Conservation Halton. The road is required to be flood proofed prior to the opening of the new Joseph Brant Hospital Emergency Room off of Lakeshore Road. The outlet for the storm sewer into Lake Ontario was completed in the fall of 2015 as the first phase of this project. This work will be coordinated with the Joseph Brant Hospital Expansion and redevelopment that is currently ongoing.
Nine trees will be removed to accommodate the project. The April 19 Development & Infrastructure Committee will consider the award of tender for the project to New-Alliance Ltd. of Burlington who came in with the lowest tender bid. The total cost of the project is $5,370,000, which includes a portion of the funding from Halton Region of $1,436,000.
Road Closures and Lane Restrictions:
Lakeshore Road from Maple Ave./Northshore Blvd. to the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant will be closed to through traffic beginning July 4, 2016 to November 18, 2017. The road closure will be a rolling staged closure to keep all of the access to the properties open.
