Video: Preview of new rooms at JBH

marianne meed ward joseph brant hospital - 2I recently had an opportunity to tour a mock up of the new hospital rooms at Joseph Brant Hospital. They are larger, fully accessible, with hand washing stations and large windows, overlooking the lake or the woodlot. The design is geared with patient health in mind. I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.

  1. It is also insulting to the narrator especially those in the responsible position of a government representative. It looks as though they Are saying this and of course I know they are Not. However, many who are more deaf than I or profoundly deaf may Not understand the difference. Is it any wonder we have such a failure to communicate in society. The persons in the video likely do Not know this which is why I pointed it out. I don’t believe either councilor Mead Ward or Sharman would ever want anyone to think they said such things. One need check who is hired to do the cc and if it is a person get a new one and if it is voice activated it is inserting sound like words but I don’t think anything sounded like bullets as it said councilor Sharman said. There are available a lot of persons who can type pretty much real time into lap tops and not make this mistake. For eg. some high school students or clerical staff who could do this and not cost what it does for a former court reporter who do this with a special machine but it costs a great deal of money. It is difficult enough to get ones’ message out with persons who disagree on many issues etc. never mind having commentary via cc that is totally Not what is being said.
Thanks Jane for checking it out. It makes me very angry when this happens.

  2. I would never had clicked on this not being deaf but I did and I can see what you mean!! Horrible!! That is a joke – no help for anyone reading the subtitles – nonsensical!!

  3. Let me add that for those of us with hearing difficulties we require cc, or lip reading, body language etc. However, on such things as videos we cannot do that so rely on cc. It would be immensely helpful if whoever is in charge of cc could ensure it is as close to a verbatim transcription as possible. Thanks.

  4. You should click on to the cc. It is nonsensical. It is of no help to persons who are HOH or deaf. This is Not an isolated case it hapens all the time. I do not know why.
