Patrick Moyle, former CAO of Halton Region, has been appointed as Burlington’s interim city manager effective May 1. Current city manager Jeff Fielding is leaving Burlington after May 16 to become city manager in Calgary.

Moyle will work with Fielding on a transition plan, and will also provide leadership assistance during the city’s recruitment process for a permanent city manager. A full, open search will begin later in 2014, and will include both internal and external candidates.

Moyle began his career in land use planning and economic development in the Muskoka District, followed by experience as a CAO in Huntsville, Orangeville and Caledon. He was also the Commissioner of Corporate Services with the City of Brampton, President of Evanco Development, and Executive Director of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). Most recently, Moyle served as CAO of Halton Region until he retired last year and subsequently established his own consulting practice, Patrick Moyle and
Associates Inc. He also serves as a Senior Advisor with the Toronto office of StrategyCorp.

My Take: Having worked with Pat in my role as regional councillor when he was CAO of Halton Region, I know him to be a dedicated administrator committed to getting results for the public – with a dash of fun and a great sense of humour. I welcome his participation and experience in helping the city through this transition.

I’d also like to thank Jeff for his time with us; he was committed to innovation and customer service, and those themes will continue through our staff and council. Regarding Jeff’s departure, it was a surprise to all of us, and I can understand that there may be anxiety among residents and staff about why it happened and what’s next. Though Jeff is leaving, council has approved a number of initiatives, and as such we, as council, have ownership of them. It has always been city staff, from the senior levels to the front lines, that have been tasked with implementing council decisions. I know our staff, with council support, will continue to move forward on the major initiatives underway at the city to make Burlington better for our residents.
