I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.

  1. Marianne, I do not have a problem with road closers but I do have problem with bicycles on side walks! How much money has been spent on bike lanes that very few people use? It is dangerous to any one walking on the side walk. The City of Burlington allows this, I believe it is wrong, I would like to know what you think.

    • Jim, Thanks for the question. Generally I support allowing bikes on sidewalks to encourage cycling and allow families to navigate the city without putting children at risk riding on the road. However, there are exceptions. Bikes on sidewalks should not be permitted in heavy pedestrian areas, such as the downtown. That is already a rule in place, however, I do see people violate that on occasion. Also, when there are festivals in Spencer Smith Park, we usually post signs asking cyclists to dismount and walk through the crowded promenade. In the end, it is really a matter of common sense and courtesy among all users of our sidewalks and paths. It only takes a few misbehaving to erode good will for all.

  2. Thanks for the flowers being lowered on the poles. It is a good start to making our downtown beautiful.

What's your take?
