Speed limit reductions for Argon Court, Elgin St
The following roadways in Ward 2 have been reviewed at the request of a resident and warrant the installation of a 40km/h speed limit:
Argon Court
Elgin Street
Elgin Street
The necessary resident notification letters have already been sent out and the signage will be installed within the next 2-3 months.

Why are we doing this on a street by street basis, instead of applying a blanket reduction to all residential streets at once?
Moreover, why aren’t we heeding the significant research on pedestrian safety and the recommendations of health officials (including Toronto’s medical officer of health), and adopting a limit of 30 km/h? At 30 km/h a pedestrian has a 90% chance of survival when struck by a car. At 45 km/h, the odds are less than 50%.
The City of Toronto applied a blanket 30 km/h limit to all residential streets in the old City of Toronto and East York last year. The city did not fall apart, and traffic did not grind to a halt. We can do it here too.

How wonderful these speed reductions will be if they are actually taken seriously. I drive constantly on Plains Road where the traffic speed reductions are in use for schools and many, many people constantly ignore these as they do the new lower speed limits on Kings Road. the ideas are good—-the enforcement is practically none existent.
Hopefully it ultimately will work—
