Traffic calming meetings: Richmond Rd (July 13); Drury Lane (July 14)

Public meeting on Richmond Road Traffic calming (July 13)

The city recently reviewed Richmond Road for additional traffic calming measures, and the results show the street meets the required minimum of 3 of 6 criteria to add further measures.

The criteria that were met:

  • 85% of traffic must be travelling at greater than 10km over the posted 40km limit; the average speed was 53km;
  • More than 5% of traffic must be travelling more than 15km over the speed limit; 11.8% of traffic was over the limit;
  • Pedestrian or cyclists generators (example a school or park) must exist on the street; there is a park nearby.

As a result, staff are proposing installation of three split speed humps. Residents are invited to a drop in meeting to review the plans:

Public meeting on revised Drury Lane traffic calming (July 14)

The implementation of the Drury Lane traffic calming plan was delayed due to the need to advance the Drury Lane resurfacing and traffic signal improvements at the intersection of Drury Lane and Prospect Street. Once the resurfacing and traffic signal improvements have been completed, the on-street parking on the east side of Drury Lane will be removed and on-street bicycle lanes will be installed from Fairview Street to New Street.

The original rubber split speed hump trial will not be implemented and only concrete speed humps will be installed on the new asphalt. Therefore, staff has revised the traffic calming plan to install three concrete split speed humps in the summer of 2017. The plan also shows four optional locations which will be reviewed one year after the initial measures have been installed to determine if they are warranted.

Residents are invited to attend a drop in Public Information Centre:
