2014 Burlington Terry Fox Run – Sunday September 14

Mark Sunday, September 14 on your calendars for the 34th annual Burlington Terry Fox Run. The run will again be at Beachway Park, beside the shores of Lake Ontario in Burlington, one of the top run sites in Ontario. You can run, walk or jog a 5 or 10 km loop along the beach and Spencer Smith Park. There will be refreshments, music and fun for the whole family. There’s no entry fee or minimum pledge. Join us to celebrate Terry’s legacy and to continue to raise money for the fight against cancer.

On April 12, 1980 Terry dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean in St. John’s NFLD. By the last day of June, when he reached Ontario, people were starting to bbelieve that he could actually run across Canada on one leg. The response was amazing. Money started to pour in. On July 13 he ran through Burlington, along Lakeshore Road. By September, just outside of Thunder Bay, Terry had to stop because his cancer had returned. In a little over four months he had become one of Canada’s greatest heroes.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised in Terry’s name, and millions of Canadians and others around the world have been inspired by his story. In Burlington, we’ve had a Terry Fox Run every year since 1981and we’re still growing after 34 years. Our community run has raised more than $1.5million, and this year we hope to have more than 1000 participants and exceed our goal of $100,000.
