Your input needed on application for Tim Hortons at former Blockbuster
Public meeting: Sept. 10, 6pm, City Hall, Council Chambers
Two future meetings tentatively Oct. 1 & 15
City staff have completed their research into the application to approve a Tim Hortons/Cold Stone Creamery in the west half of the former Blockbuster building at 601 Brant Street (No Frills Plaza). That report is available for viewing online here:http://cms.burlington.ca/AssetFactory.aspx?did=22460 You can also pick up a copy at City Hall, in the clerks counter on the first floor.
This is a preliminary information report only, and does not include a recommendation to approve, deny or approve with conditions. A subsequent report will be prepared that includes one of these recommendations.
The information report will be considered at the Sept. 10 Community Development Committee at 6pm at City Hall. Residents can attend to speak for up to 10 minutes.
I strongly encourage residents who have comments about this application, whether in support or concerned about the request, to attend the meeting to share your views with all of council. Because this is a statutory public meeting under the planning act, you do not need to register in advance to speak at the meeting. However, you may register if you wish to be heard at the beginning of the meeting (we hear from preregistered delegations first, then, we invite people to speak from the floor). You can also bring written notes or a power point. Please arrange these items for distribution and set up in advance with the clerk, Danielle Pitoscia at 905-335-7600, x 7375 or
You can also email your comments directly to me or below and I will circulate them to my colleagues.
I will be circulating some additional information to the neighbourhood once I have reviewed the report.
There will be two additional meetings to deal with this topic, at which residents can attend and speak. Those dates have not yet been set but the earliest they would occur are Oct. 1 and 15.
The decision-making process works like this: Staff will be preparing a second report with a recommendation to present to the Community Development Committee of council (all members of council sit on the CDC). Residents can register in advance to speak at that meeting. You will have 10 minutes. The earliest date this would occur is Mon. Oct. 1, 6:30 pm, City Hall, but I will confirm that date when it is firmed up.
Once the CDC votes on the matter, the item flows to city council for a final decision. Residents who were not able to speak at the CDC meeting, or who are bringing new information can register in advance to speak at the council meeting. You will have five minutes. The earliest opportunity for city council to consider this item would be Oct. 15, 7pm.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 905-335-7600, x 7588 or Additional information is available in the public notice, attached.
