Bridgewater hotel changes (Apr. 20)

proposed development from the lakeThe developer for the Bridgewater project under construction on the south side of Lakeshore Road between Elizabeth and Pearl streets is seeking variances because of a change in hotel operators. Bridgewater features a 22-storey condominium, 8-storey hotel, and 7-storey condominium, and a central public plaza and public walkway along the shoreline.

A Marriott Hotel is now proposed for the Bridgewater. Previously, a Delta Hotel was planned for the site. The Marriott Hotel will be developed and operated by Pearle Hospitality.

In order to make the switch, Marriott Hotel brand requirements make it necessary to increase the hotel floor area at select locations and increase the hotel height but not exceeding the enclosed mechanical penthouse height in the current approved plans.  There are no changes proposed to parking or to the residential condominium buildings.

The changes may require minor variances through the Committee of Adjustment. A date for the CofA has not been set; residents are invited to a neighbourhood meeting in advance to learn more:

Date:           Wednesday, April 20, 2016
Time:          7 p.m.
Location:   Burlington Lion’s Club Hall, 471 Pearl St.

Bridgewater representatives will provide an overview of the proposed changes, city planning staff will outline the planning process and I will be there to host the meeting, hear your feedback and ensure your questions get answered.
