City of Burlington looking for volunteers for boards and committees (Nov. 19)

Details: The City of Burlington is hosting a volunteer open house to recruit volunteers for the city’s committees and boards. You will have an opportunity to:
* meet volunteer members of Burlington’s boards and committees; and
* learn more about opportunities to volunteer on various boards and committees and to contribute to their projects, initiatives and council advisory roles.

Burlington seeks Community Torchbearer for TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay (Deadline: Dec. 14)

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Torch Relay is coming to Burlington next year. The City of Burlington is a major celebration community for the Pan Am Torch Relay and will choose a local resident to carry the Pan Am flame on behalf of the city. The Burlington Pan Am Community Engagement Committee is accepting applications and nominations until Dec. 14. To be considered, applicants or nominators must be 13 years or older by May 30, 2015, and must submit a photo and a Letter of Interest explaining the connection to Burlington and what being Burlington’s community torchbearer would mean to him or her. The public will then vote on a short list of names the committee will release.

Residents will be asked to select the community torchbearer to represent Burlington beginning Dec. 19. Voting will close on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015. The selected torchbearer will be notified in mid-January.
