CSC, Feb. 27, 6:30pm, City Hall; Council March 18

Spencer Smith promendadeThe Burl-Oak Naval Veterans have requested that the promenade in Spencer Smith Park from the Waterfront Hotel to the Discovery landing that abuts the Naval Ships Memorial monument be renamed the Naval Veterans Walkway, in honour of Naval Veterans.

According to information from the Burl-Oak Naval Vetarans, the monument is regarded as one of the 12 best War Memorials in Canada, attracting visitors from all over the world. There is a standing order for all Navy Ships leaving Hamilton Harbour to stop and salute the monument before continuing on their way.

Renaming the promenade will bring more attention to the monument, and honour the Naval Veterans.

My Take: I have received several emails from residents supporting this change, and also support the change. I thank Mayor Rick Goldring for bringing this forward.
