I’ve received a number of calls from residents about an A-frame sign that periodically appears at the corner of Martha & Lakeshore advertising a potential future development in that area. Attached is a picture of the sign that I took on Friday night, Sept. 18. The sign is no longer there. As of this writing, the sign has not reappeared.
The rules around A-frames require that a sales office be opened for the sign to be placed on the city boulevard. As there is no sales office open, this sign is not permitted. The developer has been notified by our by-law staff. If you see the sign reappear, please contact our bylaw office directly for action at:
City of Burlington By-law Enforcement Office
For background, the section of the city’s sign bylaw dealing A-frames is below.
Please note that despite the A-frame sign, and the signage on the hoarding surrounding the future development site, this development has not been approved. It was not supported by city staff, or by city councilors, and has been appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board for a decision. The hearing is expected in March 2016. I will keep residents informed about the outcome of this proposed development.
