Freeman Station seeks donations for basement; AGM Dec. 4

Burlington’s Freeman Station

Friends of Freeman Station, the volunteer citizens group that is leading efforts to restore and reopen the historic Burlington train station, are seeking donations (cash, goods or services) to build the basement under the station (estimated at $30,000).

The Friends oversaw the move of the station to its new location on property donated by Ashland/Hercules on Fairview West of Brant, next to the Burlington fire station. Efforts are now focused on fundraising for the basement and ultimate restoration and reopening of the station to the public.

The Friends will is presenting an update report to Burlington City Council’s Development & Infrastructure Committee Dec. 2 about progress to date.

You can help buy buying an annual membership for $10, buying a “railway tie” for $20 (each tie “moved” the station 6 inches); a T-shirt or a print of the station. They make great Christmas gifts, too! The station is a registered charity so all donations are eligible for a tax rebate.

You can also volunteer with the board. The Annual General Meeting is Dec. 4 at 7 pm in Room 247 of Burlington City Hall, and is open to the public.  Elections will be held for the 2013-14 board of directors and all paid-up members are invited to run for election.  To vote in the elections you will need to make sure your membership is renewed for the 2013-14 fiscal year (only $10!).
