Hydro for Saxony starts July 31 on Elgin St; sidewalk/road closures between Blathwayte & Burlington

Burlington Hydro Construction will require intermittent sidewalk closures, periodic road closures and traffic diversions along Elgin St between Burlington Ave and Blathwayte Lane for new Burlington Hydro distribution installations.

It is expected that commencing July 31 Blathwayte Lane will be closed to through traffic from 7:00am – 6:00pm daily for civil hydro construction purposes. Local traffic access will be maintained through access at Ontario St. If you have any concerns contact Rob Hofsink in communications at Sentrex Construction and Engineering at 905-319-3003. Resident letter: Blathwayte Ln

In an effort to expand and improve the reliability of the hydro distribution system in the downtown core Burlington Hydro will be engaging in a construction project in the City of Burlington’s core. This development will involve the excavation within certain civic roadways to accommodate the expansion of service to the new Saxony Residential Development (presently under construction at the intersection of Locust and Elgjn Streets).

At various times during the construction schedule (estimated to last 2 weeks starting the week of July 31, 2017), area businesses and residents may at times experience daytime road closures, traffic diversions that may impact the flow of traffic and sidewalk closures in the immediate area of construction. The City of Burlington’s traffic department has been consulted and we will work closely with them on traffic and parking matters.

Bethlehem Construction of Burlington has been contracted by Burlington Hydro for the excavation and installation of required equipment below the north sidewalk surface along Elgin Street between Burlington Ave and Blathwayte Lane. They will be posting traffic and pedestrian safety signage as per City of Burlington requirements and relevant Ontario construction and safety standards that provide for the safety of all vehicular traffic, pedestrians and workers affected by this construction process.

Burlington Hydro will make every effort to limit the impact on area residents, businesses and customers visiting the downtown core during this construction period. Accommodations for local area residential access will be a priority and ask for your patience and cooperation during this time. If you should have any questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact a Burlington Hydro representative listed below.

I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.

What's your take?
