Burlington seeks Community Torchbearer for TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay (Deadline: Dec. 14)

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Torch Relay is coming to Burlington next year. The City of Burlington is a major celebration community for the Pan Am Torch Relay and will choose a local resident to carry the Pan Am flame on behalf of the city. The Burlington Pan Am Community Engagement Committee is accepting applications and nominations until Dec. 14. To be considered, applicants or nominators must be 13 years or older by May 30, 2015, and must submit a photo and a Letter of Interest explaining the connection to Burlington and what being Burlington’s community torchbearer would mean to him or her. The public will then vote on a short list of names the committee will release.

Residents will be asked to select the community torchbearer to represent Burlington beginning Dec. 19. Voting will close on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015. The selected torchbearer will be notified in mid-January.

Residents are invited to enter to be Burlington’s community torchbearer today atwww.burlington.ca/panam

I was inspired to seek public office because I believe, like so many of you, “I can do something about that” on the issues we face. As councilor, my role is to take a stand on what’s best for residents and go to bat for it. Pushback is inevitable from those who don’t have the community’s interests at heart. I will stand with you and for you, to achieve the best interests of our city, without caving to unacceptable compromise in the name of consensus.

What's your take?
